Our Partners

Collaboration is the foundation of impact. Together, we turn climate data into resilience.

United by Mission

At the Louisiana Office of State Climatology, we work with an exceptional network of state, federal, and academic partners who share our commitment to understanding Louisiana's climate and protecting its people, economy, and ecosystems. Through collaboration, we deliver authoritative climate information that drives decision-making and builds resilience across Louisiana.

Southern Regional Climate Center

The Southern Regional Climate Center, hosted at Texas A&M University, is LOSC's primary regional affiliate within the NOAA Regional Climate Center network. SRCC provides the technical backbone for climate data acquisition, quality control, and archival for Louisiana.

Through shared data pipelines and analytics platforms, LOSC and SRCC ensure that Louisiana's historical and near-real-time climate data remain accurate, accessible, and interoperable across the southern United States.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Climate data acquisition and quality control
  • Regional climate data archival systems
  • Joint development of public web tools
  • Shared analytics platforms for the South

Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program

SCIPP is a NOAA-funded Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program co-led by Louisiana State University and the University of Oklahoma. LOSC collaborates closely with SCIPP to bridge science and decision-making, helping communities prepare for floods, droughts, heat waves, and other climate hazards.

Together, SCIPP and LOSC co-develop outreach workshops, vulnerability assessments, and tailored climate outlooks for Louisiana parishes.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Community outreach workshops and training
  • Climate vulnerability assessments
  • Parish-level climate outlooks
  • Social science and climate integration

National Weather Service

LOSC and the National Weather Service maintain a long-standing operational partnership centered on climate-weather integration. NWS provides essential observation infrastructure and forecast guidance, while LOSC contributes regional climate interpretation, trend analysis, and event-specific post-assessments.

This collaboration enhances Louisiana's early-warning systems for extreme weather, ensuring that emergency managers and the public receive consistent, science-based information before, during, and after disasters.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Real-time weather and climate data sharing
  • Co-authored climate summaries and reports
  • Emergency coordination during hurricanes
  • Post-event climate impact assessments

Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness

GOHSEP is Louisiana's lead agency for disaster response and hazard mitigation, and LOSC serves as its scientific climate partner. Through this collaboration, LOSC provides real-time climate intelligence, drought and rainfall analyses, and climatological context for hazard mitigation planning.

Together, the agencies ensure that the State Hazard Mitigation Plan incorporates the most current and reliable climate data available, transforming climate science into policy-relevant, actionable guidance for resilience planning statewide.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Real-time climate intelligence for disasters
  • Drought and flood monitoring support
  • State hazard mitigation planning
  • Long-term climate trend analysis

LSU AgCenter

The LSU AgCenter is both a home and a collaborator for LOSC's applied research. Through joint programs on agricultural climatology, drought resilience, and farm-level decision support, the AgCenter helps translate LOSC's climate analyses into tools farmers can use daily.

Collaborative efforts include seasonal crop outlooks, heat and moisture monitoring, and outreach through the AgCenter's statewide network of research stations and extension offices.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Agricultural climatology and crop outlooks
  • Drought resilience for farming communities
  • Extension network climate education
  • Farm-level decision support tools

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry partners with LOSC to monitor and communicate the climate conditions that directly affect Louisiana's farming and forestry sectors. This partnership integrates LOSC's drought monitoring, fire-weather indices, and extreme-heat advisories into LDAF's decision frameworks.

By combining state-level operational experience with academic climate expertise, LOSC and LDAF ensure that agricultural policy and practice are informed by reliable, science-based climate information.

Key Collaboration Areas:

  • Drought monitoring for agriculture
  • Fire weather indices and alerts
  • Extreme heat advisories for workers
  • Climate-informed policy development

Why These Partnerships Matter

Louisiana's climate challenges are complex — from coastal storms to inland droughts — and no single institution can address them alone. LOSC's partnerships unite federal data systems, state agencies, and LSU's research power under one mission: to make Louisiana safer, smarter, and more resilient in a changing climate.
